A type of Layang-Layang, a traditional type of kite originating from this specific region, Kelantan. These kites make a special sound when they fly something like I have never heard before! It's a hummer (busur) they install specifically on the kite to make the kites 'hum' in the sky. What a unique experience! The light at sunset made this moment even more magical. Here was a beautiful and rich environment I visited last year, unfortunately the mic cable got busted by baboons just 20 minutes after I installed the rig.
One of the most mindblowing experience, exploring One of the most mindblowing experience, exploring the Masai Mara and the Samburu land in Kenya last year. I am still processing it.
These are some of the richest place in wildlife I have ever been too. I also encountered kind people and genuine culture. Here is one of the most successful story about nature conservation on earth. Mainly because it is empowered by the locals. A great example for us all

Recording wild elephant sounds is not easy. Elepha Recording wild elephant sounds is not easy. Elephants move a lot and of course they do not make sounds on demand 😅!
In Kruger park in SA, even though there are many elephants, they never stay in one place, and it is not allowed to go out of your vehicle. Additionally I got to juggle with other vehicle noises and other hazards. In Aberdares park in Kenya I had more luck as I found a hide just in front of a salt lick where elephants were regularly coming, although not very talkative. In Belum Temanggor in Malaysia, they were so hard to spot, I left 3 drop rigs for 2 days, but I got almost no sound, however one of the rig got destroyed by the pachyderm 😅.
Nevertheless, I was able to capture few rare but interesting sounds in Kruger. I will continue to hone my skill, I am so grateful to witness these magnificent creatures in their own habitat. What a joy!

The cheetah's purr is so profound and soothing. On The cheetah's purr is so profound and soothing.
On my trip to South Africa in March/April I could approach and record this beautiful specimen. Cheetahs are being released back to the wild successfully giving hope for the future of wildlife. I have learnt that they are the biggest cat to produce this purr sound, lions, tigers and leopard do not purr, but it is still debated by scientists. Have a great day.

1 month ago I got an accident with my scooter, my shoulder dislocated. Thanks god this could have been worse! I am so grateful for the random strangers who helped me and brought me to the emergency as it was too late for ambulance.
I am now getting better, re-educating my shoulder. I didn't post yet, only on stories. But this made me realize how fragile we are, us and all the life that surrounds us! I thought my body was stronger but top news: it isn't. My injury is nothing compared to other people's suffering.
I feel blessed for this life and want to spread words of love and compassion. We need to take care of each others humans and all living things! Have a good day, enjoy every moment!
Here is an incredible capture I took from a sunbea Here is an incredible capture I took from a sunbear, recorded at a wildlife center in South Africa. Even though they are not originally from this region, they kept a healthy couple at this place. I do not support captivity for animals, but they wouldn't survive in the wild anyway so why not keep them alive and allow them to stay healthy while being able to study and learn from these beautiful creatures.
From here I could record some impressive sounds from a very close perspective. #fieldrecording #animalsounds

Sometimes it requires a lot of courage, other times it just flows naturally.
I am hopefully still alive and enriched with experiences, wishing it never ends.

Well here it is, of course with all the aura attac Well here it is, of course with all the aura attached to this place I am biased. This spot makes a great visual cue, but it also is a great sonic spot for distant traffic ambience!
Really it does not seem at first sight, but this location is right next to the gigantic city of Cairo! From the pyramid, at the early morning when there are no tourists, you can hear a diffused brouhaha of the chaotic traffic of the city. It is a nice and large soundscape.
I really enjoyed exploring this site and felt privilege to do so, and almost all alone.
I also recorded various locations throughout the city, I can say it is pretty hectic.
Nevertheless Egypt is wonderful with very heartwarming and generous people at the heart of the arab culture. It is also unfortunately one of the poorest and most polluted place I have been to.

**disclaimer: this was in January, I am posting now as I am going through these archive only now.

Throwback 2021 #4: Spain & Canary Islands. I staye Throwback 2021 #4: Spain & Canary Islands.
I stayed more than 2 months at the end of 2021 in different parts of Spain: València, Alicante, Granada, Malaga, and then in Gran Canaria & Tenerife on the Canary islands.
This allowed me to improve my Spanish language skills & to escape the cold winter by going more South at each steps.
I discovered more of the Spanish culture & andalusia.

I explored for the first time the Canary Islands. I have to say these are bigger islands than I thought and they are very marked by their geolical feature, originating from volcanic activities.
I also was blessed to stay 1 week with my parents there.
The Canaries is a place that has one of the best weather in the world all year round, neither too hot nor too cold. This is why so many tourist or expats go there. On the other hand the fauna and flora is not extremely rich but the variety in the topography creates pockets of micro-climates which makes the islands quite interesting.
Sound wise I was able to record some animals, natural ambiences, and urban ambiences. I also had a gun session at a shooting range.

Gracias España, hasta luego!

In July, I came back to Europe, first by kyev, then I went through Lviv & Chernivtsi, I stayed 1 month in Brasov where I could get vaccinated which allowed me to visit my family in France, where I stayed 1 month too near my hometown in Montpellier. Without covid restrictions I probably would not have made that much zigzag. In any case it was well worth exploring these places.

I wandered for 3 month in this country from April to July.
I arrived with the purpose of recording bats for a side project but ended up finding many more subjects to record.
I had such a thrilling time there even with few lockdowns. I discovered a country with myriads of treasures, rich history, intertwined with lush tropical biodiversity, deep spirituality, and heartwarming kindness. I could find many animals and interesting soundscapes for my recordings.
It certainly was one of the highlight of this year!
Before the new year, I'm gonna post some throwback Before the new year, I'm gonna post some throwback memories of countries I have visited this year!
Starting with Malaysia, where I stayed until April (after 13 months in the country). This country is genuinely amazing with a mix of modern and tradition, along with many diverse ethnicities. The lush and dense Nature brings life in many forms everywhere.
I wandered for months through the peninsula with my motorbike and it was one of the best experience I had. Right now I am still learning the language bahasa Melayu.
I can't wait to come back, and explore more on this region and neighbouring countries.
Tak lama lagi kami akan jumpa lagi Malaysia!
