Listen from inside one of the world's most extraordinary flowers.

This recording was made from within a giant Rafflesia flower in the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia. By placing microphones inside the bloom, the recording captures a rare acoustic perspective: the surrounding forest heard through the natural structure of the flower itself.

To make the subtle details more audible, the recording has been pitched down slightly. This reveals delicate movements of insects, distant rainforest activity, and the unique resonance created by the flower's interior, offering a glimpse into what the acoustic world of a Rafflesia might be like.

The recording was made using immersive Soundscape Earsight microphones. While the act of recording inside the flower was relatively straightforward, locating a suitable blooming Rafflesia in the forest was far more challenging. The idea itself fascinated me: not simply recording a flower, but listening from its perspective.

As with all recordings on this channel, this is a genuine field recording captured in a real environment, with minimal processing beyond the pitch adjustment used to reveal details that would otherwise be difficult to hear.

🎧 Headphones recommended for the most immersive experience.
