I’m Stéphane Dufour — field recordist, sound library creator, and environment sound specialist. Over the past twelve years I’ve recorded in more than sixty countries, from tropical rainforests and high-altitude glaciers to remote archipelagos and dense urban soundscapes. Before that, another eighteen years working with digital audio in production and post. That depth of experience is available to the right project.

On Location
I join expeditions, research missions, and media projects as an independent field recordist. That independence matters: capturing clean, high-quality location sound requires distance from crew noise, the freedom to move at the right moment, and the patience to wait. I often work separately from the main team — sometimes on a different schedule entirely — and deliver production-ready files in stereo, ORTF, ORTF-3D, or multichannel formats. If your project needs someone who knows how to be alone in a place and come back with something extraordinary, that’s the work I do.

Bioacoustics & Wildlife Monitoring
I’m not a bioacoustician, but thirty years of listening in the field builds a specific kind of knowledge. I can contribute to monitoring projects in practical ways: helping identify locations with minimal anthropogenic noise, drawing on twelve years of site-specific recordings across sixty countries as reference or archive material, or simply being the person who knows how to get clean recordings of a target species or habitat. If your team has the scientific methodology and needs an experienced ear and field presence to support it, that’s a useful collaboration.
