Birds are nesting at my new home-base. Even though Birds are nesting at my new home-base.
Even though the owner installed spikes and grills, the birds found a way to create a comfy nest and give birth. 🐣
The grills actually give them extra protection against predators like the owl I saw on the balcony last night!
It's also surprising how these creatures adapt to the rapidly growing urban environment. I believe they might have come nesting at this same place for generations even before they built houses here.
The beauty of life and the resilience of our natural environment is exemplary. I hope we keep protecting what is left to survive and make it thrive. I wish every act we pursue in this world to be put in the perspective of an holistic approach of our planet. Without the environment around us we are nothing, only a meaningless creature. We exist only because we can relate to our environment through all our senses.

Away from the markets and traffic, I wandered through backstreets, hidden staircases, and narrow corridors, capturing the subtle hum of the city at rest.

I just arrived from the Maluku islands in Indonesi I just arrived from the Maluku islands in Indonesia (between Papua, Sulawesi, Borneo, Australia). One of the top10 hotspot for wildlife and biodiversity.

Here, particularly on Halmahera, new species of flora and fauna are regularly found!
However the ecosystems are more and more threatened by growing mining activities and illegal logging.

I am glad I was able to capture some wonderful immersive soundscapes of the Nature symphony of this region, including the standardwing Bird of Paradise, here a small sample with this bird deep in the forest.

I explored various location, on Bacan islands, Ternate, and Halmahera.
I will post audio soon.

For the tech nerd, I am once again using my favorite recording technique: ORTF but this time in surround 3D thanks to the wonderful system conceived by Schoeps, 8 capsules arranged in 4 pairs, with top front, top back, bottom front, and bottom back. These nested in a suspension windshield by Cinela, coupled with Zoom F8n-pro. And I am using the best tripod I ever found, Fotopro x aircross 3 lite.

Recording wild elephant sounds is not easy. Elepha Recording wild elephant sounds is not easy. Elephants move a lot and of course they do not make sounds on demand 😅!
In Kruger park in SA, even though there are many elephants, they never stay in one place, and it is not allowed to go out of your vehicle. Additionally I got to juggle with other vehicle noises and other hazards. In Aberdares park in Kenya I had more luck as I found a hide just in front of a salt lick where elephants were regularly coming, although not very talkative. In Belum Temanggor in Malaysia, they were so hard to spot, I left 3 drop rigs for 2 days, but I got almost no sound, however one of the rig got destroyed by the pachyderm 😅.
Nevertheless, I was able to capture few rare but interesting sounds in Kruger. I will continue to hone my skill, I am so grateful to witness these magnificent creatures in their own habitat. What a joy!

On my trip to South Africa in March/April I could approach and record this beautiful specimen. Cheetahs are being released back to the wild successfully giving hope for the future of wildlife. I have learnt that they are the biggest cat to produce this purr sound, lions, tigers and leopard do not purr, but it is still debated by scientists. Have a great day.

1 month ago I got an accident with my scooter, my shoulder dislocated. Thanks god this could have been worse! I am so grateful for the random strangers who helped me and brought me to the emergency as it was too late for ambulance.
I am now getting better, re-educating my shoulder. I didn't post yet, only on stories. But this made me realize how fragile we are, us and all the life that surrounds us! I thought my body was stronger but top news: it isn't. My injury is nothing compared to other people's suffering.
I feel blessed for this life and want to spread words of love and compassion. We need to take care of each others humans and all living things! Have a good day, enjoy every moment!
