Take a slow, immersive journey through Kenya’s Masai Mara, from the first light of dawn through the shifting energy of the day and into the quiet atmosphere of night. This 2-hour soundscape condenses a full day in the savanna into one continuous and deeply engaging listening experience.

[The Concept & Disclaimer]
As a field recordist, I am always listening not just for individual sounds, but for how a place evolves over time. The Masai Mara is constantly changing, from the dense activity of dawn, to the more open and restrained daytime environment, to the textured and atmospheric world that emerges after dusk.

This piece follows that natural progression. It is not a loop, but a carefully shaped timeline built from a real day in the Mara, compressed into a focused 2-hour format while remaining faithful to the environment. I also cleaned the recording to remove intrusive low-frequency rumble, wind blasts, and unwanted human noise, allowing the natural soundscape to come through clearly.

[The Audio Experience]
🎧 Headphones highly recommended!

This soundscape is designed for deep, immersive listening. It opens with a pre-dawn scene, where you can hear mostly big mammals (like hyenas, hippos,...) still haunting the last breath of the night. Then comes a slow waking-up and rich dawn, when birds and wildlife define the space, activities modulate and increase throughout the sunrise; then gradually move through the subtle shifts of the day before settling into the more continuous and calming textures of night (with distant lions' roar).

There is a plethora of species present in this piece, and it is hard for me to list them all (I might update this description with a more precise count and names of species).

The goal is to preserve the natural rhythm of the savanna and reflect its circadian cycle, while keeping the experience smooth, coherent, and easy to stay with over time.
