Troubles with NT45-O capsule

It’s been few days I have troubles with my newly purchased NT-45-O microphone capsules from Rode. I recently bought 2 of them in an attempt to extend the possibilities with the NT5, and have them capture omnidirectionally. While one of Read More …

Experience the remarkable transition from day to night in the ancient tropical rainforest of Gunung Jerai, Malaysia. Recorded near the summit at approximately 1000 metres above sea level, this uninterrupted 45 minute ambience captures one of the most vibrant moments in the forest's daily cycle.

As the sun sets, the soundscape transforms dramatically. Bird activity reaches one of its daily peaks while countless insects emerge to create an extraordinary chorus. Several cicada species become remarkably vocal during this brief window, creating a dense and ever changing tapestry of sound before gradually giving way to the rhythms of the tropical night.

Rising in relative isolation above the surrounding lowlands, Gunung Jerai is recognised as one of Malaysia's most distinctive ecological refuges. Its long isolation has allowed many plants and animals to evolve independently, making this tropical rainforest a fascinating place to experience nature through sound. Some species found here occur nowhere else, while others exist as unique local populations, contributing to an exceptionally rich acoustic environment.

[The Concept & Disclaimer]

This recording is part of my ongoing exploration of natural sound environments around the world. Unlike constructed or looped ambiences, this is a genuine, uninterrupted moment captured in the field. Only minimal cleanup was performed to preserve the realism, natural dynamics, and acoustic character of the environment.

[The Audio Experience]

🎧 Headphones recommended!

Recorded using a combination of a Micro Uši microphone, an Immersive Soundscapes EarSight microphone, and Sennheiser MKH microphones, this stereo mix aims to recreate the immersive experience of standing quietly in the rainforest as day fades into night.
