Journal Entry: Day 135

Ella, Sri Lanka,

Yesterday I went to visit and did a hike to the place easy to reach around Ella. I accessed the famous nine arches bridge by walking along the train railway.
I have learned that there is no train nowadays, neither in nor out Ella, due to the Covid restrictions, it is strange as it usually is a big attraction for visitors and you usually have to reserve seats few months in advance. But right now, there might be only a handful of visitors anyway. I could find one cafe open, and they say more are opening back, after more than 1 month of complete stillness.

I did not sleep well this night, I have eaten something that completely disturbed my body, I am not sure what it was, I had a terrible bellyache and had to throw up in the middle of the night. I feel better now. I am gonna be more cautious about what I eat. This probably is due to a small bottle of mango/chili juice, it was delicious but spicy and probably stayed on the shelf too long since no one is buying anything right now.

Soundwise it is an interesting place here, with temples prayers, and beautiful nature. Depending on the geography you can hear more or less human noises. On the railway track, I was surprised to find some pine forests as most of the vegetation I saw until now in Sri Lanka was more tropical. This difference also reflects in the soundscape.

I was planning to go to Ella Rock early today (a 4-5h hike with stunning views) but because of my stomach issue, I postponed this trip, either later today or tomorrow morning. I am still not sure where I will end up after Ella, probably Kandy even if there is no train, and most of the places are closed. It is on the way to Colombo and nearby the elephants’ place which I would like to get some recordings from. I also updated the Articulated Starter Pack with the latest UCS version, but all libraries still need the UCS upload and configuration, the files are ready, however, so I might concentrate on that today. It is better to make that happen.
