Journal Entry: Day 136

Ella, Sri Lanka,

Today morning I felt better, my belly problem was gone. So I went early on a hike to the famous Ella rock. Nowadays there aren’t many visitors, it is best for sound recording. But the path is full of grass and very difficult to find, I got lost few times, and had to cut through the bushes for one hour trying to find my way. I finally made it to the top. I also discovered a very nice place called ‘chill cafe’, they have great food and drinks, I can work from there.

Today there were some very subtle and quiet ambiences I could capture which made me think about all the noise that humans generate.
In the last decades it has become a frenzy of noise pollution, mostly from ‘engines’ be it: cars, planes, chain saws, blowers, trucks,… it was not like this one century ago, there were almost no human engines. So it is very new to this world, but it has an incredible impact, particularly on wild species that never heard such discordant tumult for millions of years. Humans are ingenious, they invent and create incredible technology. But with a very short time frame in mind. We don’t really think about the consequences of our actions on a long-term scale. I just wish humans would rethink how all these engines can be silenced. It would help bring peace and harmony, make the world more serene and less stressful.
