Quiet Streets 3D: Capturing the Stillness of Urban Life

Urban environments are rarely thought of as quiet, yet moments of stillness exist in every city—tucked away in hidden alleys, peaceful courtyards, and calm side streets. Quiet Streets 3D is an exploration of these understated soundscapes, a collection recorded over two years across multiple continents. This is my latest sound library released.

With a 3D microphone capturing an immersive, spatial perspective beyond human hearing, these recordings transport listeners into the subtle, layered atmospheres of urban quietude. Whether it’s the muted hum of distant traffic along a narrow passageway in Paris, the soft echoes of footsteps in a quiet Hong Kong corridor, or the gentle rustle of leaves in a backstreet in New Delhi, each recording encapsulates the overlooked dimensions of city life.

The project was shaped by a deep awareness of environmental impact. Every recording session was thoughtfully integrated into existing travels, minimizing unnecessary trips while allowing for a slow, intentional approach to sound gathering. More on this approach can be found in this blog post.

Quiet Streets 3D is more than a library—it’s a collection of atmospheres, textures, and moods that offer a new way to experience the city. With over 9 hours and 40 minutes of recordings, 100 meticulously captured files at 96kHz/24bit, and a total of 75GB, it provides an essential toolkit for sound designers, filmmakers, and game developers looking to weave authentic urban soundscapes into their projects.
